THE RAMBLINGS OF A STRUGGLING ARTIST ON LIFE WITH TWO TERRIERS, A PONY WITH ISSUES AND OTHER WILDLIFE AND BIRDS THAT CROSS OUR PATH

LET THE PICTURES DO THE TALKING

It’s been a bit of a stressful week. The Guatemalan worry dolls have been playing a big part in my bedtime routine! I really love those little things. Consequently I have painfully little to say without ranting to the point of being very boring and excessively uninteresting. So, I will let some photos do the talking. Many apologies…..

I thought these clouds were stunning with their innocent shades of grey and they look how I feel!

Trigger’s eye is almost healed now:

Heathers

TINY Yarrow

Snippet had a multiple encounter with the foals this week. The bolder ones like to chase him, Lizzy being one of them, whilst the more timid amongst them prefer bit of nasal breathing.

A bit more pony action

Snippet left us this mole one morning. I don’t think he killed it as it had no marks at all. Fascinating to see it though, despite it being sopping wet after a night out.

Some Snippet moments:

Stick frenzy

Shaking after an inadvertent dip in the stream

A crane fly. When I go out in the morning, they rise as a cloud as I walk through the grass

A Meadow Brown butterfly

A garden spider eating a fly

A buzzard on an electric cable

Hope to be feeling more positive next time - have a good Sunday.

  1. Great photos, Em. Never heard of a worry doll until now I am sure. I will have to get me one of those.

    1. I think I might photograph them; they're such a comfort. Those who know me well would probably be VERY surprised to hear that I use them. I have quite long chats with them actually! I'm sure you could find them quite easily on the internet.

  2. I hope next week will be a better one for you Em.

Lovely photos again, especially the first one of the mare and foal. Isn`t it great to be able to get to know a little herd of wild ponies and follow their progress? Some of our local New Forest mares were foals when we first arrived here and now they are grandmothers.

Snippet seems very sensible around the ponies and always looks so happy on his walks.

    1. Thank you. I think Snippet is a very lucky dog given the amount of time he spends off his lead. The ponies have realised they can tease him and are doing so more and more poor thing. I'm looking forward to watching Lizzy and the others grow up if they plan to stay around here over winter. I really hope they do.

  3. What wonderful photos, lovely clouds but I really enjoyed the ponies and Snippet. I like how they seem to get along so well, maybe ?
I understand stressful weeks, months and even years ... so I hope the new week is new start and better for you.

The Square Ones send woofs !

    1. Appreciate the square woofs! This is that kind of stress that keeps you awake at night grinding teeth and going over stuff again and again with seemingly no resolution. I just have to try and not let it get to me so much. Glad you like the clouds by the way; I thought they were stunning too.

  4. Hope it all goes away Em, worrying is such a downer. Gorgeous photos, those dark skies remind me of the Yorkshire Moors, and you have such a happy dog in Snippet, I like the idea of him being teased by the ponies.
    Best wishes Thelma

    1. Thanks Thelma. I have to try and rise above it.

The ponies were at it again this morning, cantering around after him. He just runs away with his tail between his legs, no barking or aggression, which is more than I can say for him when I used to ride Trigger. I had to give up the idyllic idea of the three of us galloping over the moors. I think he was just jealous.

  5. Hey Em
Sorry to hear that you have worries and I hope things get easier soon. Beautiful photos and glad to see Triggers eye has nearly healed. Snippet looks such a fun dog in to everything I suspect :)Seeing all those beautiful ponies bring back so many wonderful memories.
Hope you have a good week. Take care Julie x

    1. Thanks Julie. Hope you have a good week too and, yes, he is a lot of fun as well as being a terror at times. I just have to remember that terriers are really bred to kill so chasing after every rustle in the grass is hard-wired into his DNA!

  6. Wonderful photos. Some really good close-ups of the ponies which catches their characters beautifully - same applies to Snippet too! The clouds look magnificent, even though they were heralding even more rain.

I hope that your worry dolls have eased some of your teeth-grinding. We had 18 months of that here, so I can sympathize.

Haven't forgotten the reciprocating photo by the way - yours is two feet away from me on my left, and lifts my spirits every time I look at it.

    1. I'm so pleased it helps transport you here. I think I need to take a picture of the worry dolls as they've helped me so much over the years. Not sure why as I'm not a great believer in such things but they do have calming powers it seems.

Funnily enough, those clouds never dropped any rain - they just moved over majestically all day. Maybe someone else got their payload!

  8. Dear Em,
I do hope you perk up - at least things aren't so bad you can't glory in your wonderful environment - and your fantastic camera! What exquisite photographs! Of course it's not the camera, but the human eye behind it that makes it so expressive. You aren't worried that a foal might kick Snippet when he's being chased?
Hope this week's brighter for you,

    1. Thanks Virginia, you're so right. I always feel better when I get out there; an instant cure for claustrophobia!

Snip has learned to avoid back legs since Trigger kicked him a couple of years ago.....he was snapping at his heals! The foals seem to have play as their intent and are definitely chasing him as opposed to him them. I took a great picture yesterday of Lizzy appearing to pounce at him. I'll put it in the next post. Hope things are good on the other side of the world - you must be coming in to spring now.

  9. Worry dolls are involved in my life also! I find my camera helps me balance although the worry is always there in the background.

Love the cloud photos and do so enjoy the photos of the foals. Great fun watching them grow from across the pond.
