DAISY'S FOAL IDA

Checking in somewhat earlier than I expected, here she is. Jet black; not a spot on her as far as I can tell; even more enchanting than the last black one I think. A bit of a shame that she'll undoubtedly end up grey like her mum. Whether it will be as fleabitten I don't know and, at the moment, I don't want to think about it - she's so beautiful. I spotted her from the car this morning and screeched to a halt, much to Origami Boy's annoyance, and jumped out as gently as my excitement would allow. In the absence of any suggestions, I'm calling her Ida.

Sorry to post so soon after the last one but I did promise. Until next time, here she is one last time tonight.

  6. She is so beautiful!

In answer to your earlier question, we went across Tavistock to Ashburton. I spotted maybe four foals, but without a trek (and time not on our side) couldn't have got close enough to photograph. Lots of lambs too. And a herd of cows blocking the road!

  7. Hello Em! Again I find myself so enjoying catching up on your post and all your photos! The foals really are beautiful, Ida especially! I'm also glad that Snippet is feeling better too!

  9. Ida is a beautiful foal. I do enjoy visiting your blog. I've been neglecting mine since we decided to move two and a half months ago. Everything went so quickly and I found I needed time to let my brain start to percolate again. But we are beginning to settle down into a routine now. Thank goodness.

  10. Okay, I guess I will go ahead and disclose my ignorance by asking: what is the relationship between the names Daisy and Ida. I've missed something along the way. Would someone please explain? Thank you!

  12. What a poppet. I am surprised she wasn't 16hh at birth if her mother's girth was anything to go by!!! Lovely name, and I guess as she's a filly she'll stay on the moor.

  13. How exciting to finally find her! How old do the think she is - a week or so? She looks pretty steady on her pins?

And, while I think of it, if that's the worse thing Origami Boy has to cope with, he's a lucky chap! My sone regularly did the Rolling-of-the-eyes at his mother's behaviour!!

Thanks you sharing, she's beautiful, and mum's come through fine too.

  14. Oh! She's absolutely beautiful - so glad you found her.

Love the name too - so suits her - sorry I couldn't think of one. Absolutely hopeless at thinking up names!!!

  15. Absolutely enchanting photos! I'm glad someone else besides myself jumps out of cars with camera in hand :) Tell your son it's one of those things that makes mother happy.

Ida is precious! I especially love the one of her laying down. You must draw her and her mother!

  16. Rusty D - I love Ashburton; one of the few places we would consider going if we have to move for secondary school reasons. We're so far out here, the options are pretty meagre.

Kim - Snippet is like his old self and I forget that it was this time last week he was hobbling round like he would only ever have three legs.

Margarethe - It's a great thing to be able to pop out and see them right there on the doorstep. I envy your bugs though!

Chris - Moving is such a stressful time isn't it? It takes months just to get everything put away and then rearranged and put away again! So glad you're settling now.

Barbee - When I was thinking of flower related names, I ended up on a rather technical website with lists of wildflowers and all their relations and sub-species this is it:
    http://wildflowerfinder.org.uk/

I clicked on 'Daisy and Dandelion Family' and a HUGE list came up which contained Iva, which I then mis-typed in my post and didn't notice as I saved it and went off to do sometyhing else before I finished it! By the time I went back to it, I had completely forgotten and am going to have to explain myself in the next post. So...you are very clever to have noticed the mistake and I apologise. Mistake made, I think Ida is a better name than Iva so I think I'll leave it!

Parsnip - it was a bit sooner than I'd expected!

BB - There must have been an awful lot of fluid in there because she's pretty tiny. I do hope she stays and we see her change colour.

Virginia - I think she's at least two weeks old, maybe more. Her mum is an old hand; Foal number 1's mum from last year.

RR - Me too, especially having got it completely wrong....see reply to Barbee's comment!

  17. Gail - sorry, we must have crossed in cyber-space there....I will try and draw her. I haven't done a pony for ages. I haven't drawn for ages!

  18. No - thank YOU for saving me further embarrassment! I should be swimming round in a small bowl of water with plastic rocks in it. Please note I have removed all reference to Daisies...
